Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This means them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
