European Football's Governing Body Launches Formal Investigation Against Pedro Neto After Altercation Involving Paris St-Germain Ball Boy.
UEFA has initiated a disciplinary case against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto following an incident where he shoved a young stadium attendant during a Champions League defeat against PSG.
The 26-year-old, Pedro Neto, shoved the boy in stoppage time of the knockout stage first leg in Paris – where Chelsea lost heavy defeat – which caused the boy falling from a chair.
The incident triggered a heated exchange between the opposing squads.
Officials stated proceedings have been instigated against the player on grounds of "conduct contrary to sporting spirit" under the official rules.
"Uefa's disciplinary bodies will take a decision regarding this matter at a later date," UEFA announced.
The Chelsea player said sorry after the match attributing it to getting swept up "by the heat of the moment" as he tried to quickly retrieve the ball.
"This is out of character for me. It happened in the passion of the game and I sincerely apologise. I gave him my shirt. I feel terrible about it - I feel I have to apologise to him," Neto told the media.
"I have limited French, so teammate Vitinha stepped in and told him that it was a momentary lapse.
"Finally he accepted the apology and I presented him with my jersey apologising many times. He understood the context of the incident and was happy with how it was resolved."
Chelsea face Paris St-Germain next Tuesday for the return fixture, following a match against Newcastle at their home ground on Saturday in the Premier League.
