Former Physician Faces Assault Charges Against 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have announced that a ex- doctor has been charged with performing assaults involving thirty-eight victims who were under his care.

The Grave Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

One senior prosecutor said, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Investigation

These allegations come after what police described as a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

Breakdown of Offences

Prosecutors said the forty-five charges he is charged with:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
