The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
