It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miamiās Little Havana neighborhood.
āThe swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,ā stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
āIf we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,ā the mayor added. āI hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.ā
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the regionās Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling ā6-7ā ā deriving from a rap song lyric ā often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made āsix-sevenā its top term for the year.
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary āfar from charcoal and roasting pansā, according to the eventās official press release.
āThe annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,ā said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
āIt captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.ā
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
